About Us

Roade School Sports College is an 11-18 co-educational comprehensive school having 6 forms of entry, with a Published Admissions Number (PAN) of 180. The school, which has foundation status, serves a largely rural linked area with eight contributory primary schools which are situated in the villages of Ashton, Blisworth, Collingtree, Hackleton, Hardingstone, Hartwell, Stoke Bruerne and Roade. Of a total of 1079 pupils, 149 are pursuing studies at Post-16 level.

The original buildings date back to 1956 but with a continuing increase in the school's population following the introduction of comprehensive education in 1975 there was a series of major building programmes, each of which provided an impressive range of facilities.

1994 saw completion of a £2.75m building programme, followed by additional ICT and Technology facilities in September 1997. In 2000, the Post 16 Library and conversion of adjacent rooms were finished, providing further excellent study facilities for students. Later the same year Post 16 students gained the use of a new Coffee Shop, built adjacent the canteen, the servery of which underwent major renovation.

A further capital building programme was completed in autumn 2001 when a £1.2m enhancement of sports provision and an additional two-storey science block were commissioned. The Sports Hall was extended and a fitness centre and social area were added together with additional changing rooms, staff and office accommodation.

The School benefits from a Gift Aid Scheme, a registered charity, providing additional funding for a range of projects and equipment beyond the schools budget.

In September 2000, the School was awarded Sports College Status. The purpose of this Specialist Status is to raise academic standards, through the framework of PE and Sport. In addition to significantly enhanced sports provision, revenue funding enables the provision of a range of out-of-school activities, masterclasses and taster sessions in a variety of areas and not exclusively in sport. This status was renewed in 2004.

The school is proud to hold a number of Quality Marks which indicate the quality of the schools provision against a number of nationally recognised criteria. These include Sport England's Sportsmark, Healthy Schools Award, Eco-Schools Award (Bronze), Active Citizens Award (Silver) and Investors in People.

Roade School also has recognised status as an initial teacher training centre, and in conjunction with other schools in South-West Northamptonshire offers a Postgraduate Certificate of Education qualification through the Grand Union Training Partnership and the University of Leicester.
