Kid's Lit Quiz

On Friday November 20th Roade School hosted the Central England regional heat of the Kids’ Lit Quiz. Eleven schools took part, with some travelling from distances as far as Skegness.

The Quiz is a national celebration of books and reading. Teams of four students work together to answer one hundred wide-ranging book-related questions arranged in ten categories.

There are 15 heats held across the country, followed by a national final, from which the winning UK teams are invited to compete in the World final.

Roade entered two teams, comprised of the following students: Sophia Aldwinckle, Sam Bird, Ellie Howard, Isaac Mitchell, Libbie Pyatt, Gareth Watkins, Mickey Watkins and Sofia Westwood. After the completion of each round, the highest scoring member of each team was award the prize of a book. While the papers were being marked between rounds, Quiz Master Wayne Mills offered £1 cash prizes for the fastest correct answer.

In addition to the 11 schools taking part, the quiz was joined by a team of authors, and I am pleased to report that one of the teams from Roade beat them in one round. Copies of the authors’ books were available for sale, signed by the author if students wished.

Roade School did extremely well, with each of our teams winning a round. I was extremely proud of our students, who were true ambassadors for the school.

The Wellingborough Preparatory School team were the overall winners, and we wish them the best of luck in the UK final, which is being held before Christmas.
